Dr. Gunturu continues to be focused on increasing efficiency within the Psychiatry Residency Training Program. As Director of this Program and Vice Chairman for Education, Research, and Faculty Development, he has led numerous initiatives to refine training processes, elevate educational standards, and promote research. In addition, enhancing community psychiatric services and expanding outreach remain top priorities for him.
Prior to joining BronxCare, Dr. Gunturu completed a postdoctoral clinical fellowship in Public Psychiatry at Columbia University and a Consultation Liaison Psychiatry Fellowship at the University of Miami – Miller School of Medicine. He also completed a General Psychiatry Residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai, as well as previously earned a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) from NTR University of Health Sciences in India.
In addition to his clinical and educational roles, Dr. Gunturu is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai and Clinical Associate Professor at St. George’s University School of Medicine. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology and holds memberships in several professional societies, including the American Psychiatric Association Council on Healthcare Systems and Financing and the American Association of Directors of Psychiatric Residency Training. He also currently serves as President for the American Psychiatric Association’s Bronx District Branch.
Dr. Gunturu is widely recognized for his efforts to improve mental health care access and quality in underserved communities.
