As Director, Revenue Support Services, Stephany Saunders is responsible for its revenue cycle activities, including the charge structure for BronxCare and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center practices. She also oversees the Accounts Receivable for the BronxCare Special Care Center and Oncology Service. Ms. Saunders continually works with BronxCare’s physicians and administrative staff in the coding and billing process, with the goal of securing maximum reimbursement from Medicare and Medicaid, as well as the insurance and managed care companies. “It is certainly a complex process that involves continued follow up, negotiating, and appealing, when claims are denied or must be adjusted,” stated Ms. Saunders.
As a part of her financial responsibilities, Ms. Saunders prepares the revenue and other key reports for BronxCare’s Administrative and Physician leaders. “These reports have become an essential part of the decision-making process, in terms of identifying areas of strength and ones for improvement,” stated Ms. Saunders. In addition, BronxCare’s Charity Care Policy for the uninsured, as well as price transparency and telehealth requirements, were implemented by Ms. Saunders.
During her 25-year career at BronxCare, Ms. Saunders has consistently applied her financial experience and expertise. Ms. Saunders began her career as Director, Inpatient Financial Services, in 2000 and advanced to Long-Term Care and Charge Description Manager in 2003, when she assumed a vital role in systems enhancements and modifications. Her accomplishments in this area led to promotion to Director, Long-Term Care, Financial Aid, where she was instrumental in training registrars and managers and devising a training manual, in addition to overseeing the credentialing department and contracts area. In 2016, Ms. Saunders was subsequently promoted to her current Revenue Support Services position.
As for her educational background, Ms. Saunders has an Associate degree in Accounting from New York City College of Technology and continued her studies at Baruch College. She is also an instructor for a Billing Course at Lehman College, preparing students for financial careers.
As she continues to move forward, Ms. Saunders takes pride in her accomplishments. “There are certainly challenges ahead of us, and I will continue to devote my efforts towards making an important contribution to BronxCare’s financial stability and future success,” stated Ms. Saunders.
