Under Dr. Sherman's leadership, the Pediatrics Department is providing a wide range of services in a totally modern children's wing. Among the many problems treated are acute respiratory and cardiac illnesses, the complications of asthma, diabetes, gastrointestinal, neurological disorders, and infectious diseases. The Children's Wing includes a 20-bed inpatient unit and ICU, as well as a major outpatient center and additional sites for the community.
For most of his professional career, Dr. Sherman has focused on the health needs of the children and adolescents in the Bronx, as both a clinician and leader. It is the provision of quality healthcare to under-served pediatric populations that remains as one of Dr. Sherman's strongest interests. he has lectured locally and nationally on this issue, with a continuing focus on the health of homeless children and the impact of domestic violence. In fact, Dr. Sherman served as co-chair of the Ambulatory Pediatrics Association's special interest group for the "under-served." he was also a member of the Steering Committee for the Healthcare of the Homeless Clinician's Network.
Prior to joining BronxCare, Dr. Sherman was the Director of Montefiore Medical Center's residency program in Social Pediatrics. This program has the distinction of being on eof the premier training programs for physicians interested in providing healthcare to urban-at-risk children.
Dr. Sherman received his Medical Degree from the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. He also trained in Pediatrics at Montefiore Medical Center, prior to being awarded a fellowship at the University of Maryland. Dr. Sherman is board certified in both Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine and also has his Masters Degree in Public Health from Lehman College.
"We are taking on an essential role and clearly succeeding in caring for newborns, children, and adolescents," stated Dr. Sherman.
